Hello Hello, Happy April!! I am here to share What I’m Loving lately, but I am also just on a complete high after just getting back from Phoenix and the Beautycounter L.E.A.D Conference!!
I was sort of “meh” about going since my life has been laser focused on residency lately, but I’m SO glad I decided to go!! Meeting the women on my team in real life was unbelievably awesome, hearing about the inner workings of the company and the mission from the corporate executives in real life was so encouraging, and getting realizing how powerful we all are when we work together just reignited a fire in me. This company is the real deal.I probably sound like I drank major Kool Aid but dang that conference was good.
Residency Plans
Okay, enough about that. I’m definitely loving that lately, but there’s more going on in my life than just Beautycounter! It’s only been about two weeks since Match now, but it seems like forever ago. Such a whirlwind! You would not believe the amount of emails and paperwork and forms and requirements I’ve gotten, all due at different times of course! I’ve filled out background checks and applied for my temporary medical license and done a medical Spanish Skype interview! I think the only major thing I have left is my health paperwork. I think. Thank goodness they gave us a checklist:)
I still don’t know where I’ll be living! My boyfriend and I are looking into a few different apartment buildings that seem like good options..So many of you reached out with ideas which is just the nicest, but I actually won’t be living in downtown Chicago near the main Northwestern hospital. My family medicine residency mainly works out of one of the suburban Northwestern hospitals and a few clinics, so we’ll likely choose to live a bit outside the city. Downside is not as easy to see friends and do all the fun city stuff. Upside is cheaper rent, slower pace, and still a quick train ride in. The current plan is to drive up this coming weekend and check out the options so that we can snatch one up when they start becoming available for June move in.
Alright time for a few things I’m loving lately!
What I’m Loving Lately
Lake Pajamas
My blog friend turned Beautycounter mentor turned real friend Terilyn surprised me with these as a Match present. THE SWEETEST!! But also, I’d seen Lake PJs everywhere and they are 100% worth the hype. I’m obssesed. They actually fit and are so cute and comfy. I want so many pairs, and will definitely be gifting them!
Queer Eye Season Three
Have you watched it yet? So good.I used to love Antoni but I’ve become a huge Tan fan. I also just started watching Selling LA which is absurd but weirdly addicting.
Crossword Puzzles!
My roommate got me back into crossword puzzles! I used to do the one in the school newspaper every day in college. They are just such a good way to keep your mind fresh and learn new things. We have started doing them together as some roomie bonding.
Ordering a Patagonia that says Clare Brady, MD!!
That felt weird!! One of the current Northwestern residents sent us an email asking if we’d like to get a personalized Patagonia. Telling them to embroider “Clare Brady, MD” felt so weird, but was also so exciting!! Only 47 more days!
New Medicine Podcasts
I recently downloaded a bunch of new medicine podcasts. I figure I’ll listen to a few to brush up on my knowledge now, but also maybe for my future drives to work.
- AFP: American Family Physician
- Better Edge: A Northwestern Medicine Podcast
- Breakthroughs: Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine Research Office Podcast
- JAMA Clinical Reviews
- Medicine, Human Health, and the Frontiers of Science by Stanford
- POEM of the Week Podcast
- The Doctor’s FARMacy by Dr. Mark Hyman
Sharp Objects
I finally finished this book while in Hilton Head last week. Once I got to the end I realized I had seen some previews of the HBO show and knew what happened, but it was still so good! Gillian Flynn has a weird mind, but she writes good books.
My new high rise black jeans
I always felt like I couldn’t buy true high rise jeans because I’m so short waisted. I wish I hadn’t waited so long, because they are so comfortable and I love the look! I have this black pair from J.Crew (wearing in the photo above) and might try some Madewell or Everlane next!
Apartment Hunting
This is kind of stressful but also really fun. I love scouring Zillow and seeing what’s out there! I also love doing it with the budget set way higher than I could ever afford…ha! My house right now is exactly what we need and really cheap, but it’s also kind of a disaster. I’m just really excited to live in a little bit of a nicer place and of course to live with Scott.
Chat soon, friend! xoxo
