United States: Nineteen fitness establishments across Southern Nevada have been mandated by the Health District to either employ lifeguards or permanently close their aquatic facilities.
Previously, these gyms operated their pools under an exemption that permitted remote surveillance and periodic inspections. This waiver has been rescinded by the Southern Nevada Health District due to mounting safety concerns.
The SNHD informed the 19 affected gyms that they must present a comprehensive safety plan, including the addition of lifeguards, or cease pool operations until compliance is achieved. The majority of these gyms have a June deadline to fulfill these requirements, according to reports by Fox5.
Notable gyms on the list include Las Vegas Athletic Club, Stirling Club, UFC FIT Centennial, and various EōS Fitness locations.
Eric McCauley, Senior Regional Vice President of Sales for EōS Fitness in Nevada, stated on Wednesday, “EōS is orchestrating the deployment of additional lifeguards across several Las Vegas Valley locations to meet the new pool safety regulations issued by the Southern Nevada Health District. This initiative may lead to temporary pool closures as we bolster our lifeguard team.”
The statement further read, “Moreover, we will permanently shutter some pools, utilizing this opportunity to enhance our amenities, install new equipment, and expand workout areas to ensure our members receive a premium fitness experience. We advise members to contact their local EōS Fitness for the latest updates pertinent to their location, ensuring uninterrupted water fitness activities,” as mentioned by Fox5.
While EōS did not specify which locations would close their pools, members are encouraged to check with their local gym for the most current information.
UFC FIT Centennial has announced that they are in the process of hiring lifeguards to maintain their pool operations.
FOX5 reached out to the other gyms affected by the lifeguard waiver revocation, but responses are still pending.
